It started simply — a genuine love of New Zealand's native trees and a patch of land in Opotiki that needed purpose.
What began as a personal project — propagating kauri, tōtara, and native hedging plants from seed — slowly grew into something more. Neighbours started asking. Then friends. Then strangers from across the Bay of Plenty. Before long, East Coast Natives was born.
Four years on, we're still a small, hands-on nursery. Every plant is raised here in Opotiki, given time to establish properly before it goes anywhere. We don't rush things — good natives shouldn't be.

I've always believed that planting a native tree is one of the most meaningful things you can do for the land. There's something deeply satisfying about watching a kauri you've grown from seed find its home in someone's garden — knowing it could be there for hundreds of years.
East Coast Natives is a one-person operation, and I like it that way. It means every plant gets my attention, and every customer gets an honest answer about what will work for their spot.
